Cupping uses air suction to pull the skin, and fascial layer into the cups, while leaving the muscle layer free to move. Traditionally, the cups are left to sit or are moved around by a therapist to pull the fascia away from the muscles.
Active cupping massage promotes improved blood circulation, muscle relaxation, and the release of tension. The movement of the cups over the skin helps to mobilize deep tissue, break up adhesions, and enhance lymphatic drainage. This technique can alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, and speed up recovery by increasing oxygen and nutrient flow to muscles and connective tissues. Overall, active cupping massage is an effective method for enhancing flexibility, boosting performance, and relieving chronic muscle stiffness.
Cupping marks can be a common side effect of applying suction cups to your skin. Marks are the result of lifting waste in deeper tissues to the surface and fade within 5-10 days. Sometimes this can cause a strong reaction from the body’s immune system for some people. A strong reaction can come in the form of nausea, fatigue, headaches, or body soreness for a day or two post session. However, this is not common with good hydration and fluid movement with the cups.
Techniques
Swedish Massage & Deep Tissue
Performed to relax the body and improve overall health. Often involves actions like percussion, kneading, vibration, tapping and rolling. Massage oil or lotion is used to protect skin from friction. Pressure used is dependent on client’s preference.
Neuromuscular Deep Tissue & Trigger Point Therapy
Neuromuscular Deep Tissue focuses on relieving pain and dysfunction originating from specific areas in the muscles. Often used in conjunction with Trigger Point Therapy. Trigger Point Therapy is designed to work very specific areas often called ‘knots’ and their reference areas through the body.
Myofascial Release
Involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. No oil is used.
